Environmental, Social, and Governance

We live in a changing world and with change comes challenge. By placing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles at the core of Chatham Homes’ operations; we model a commercial moral fibre that considers the environmental, social, and economic outcomes of our actions. Our intention is to break through the prevailing assumption that profitable growth rides on the back of environmental and social degradation, we believe the two can thrive together and be mutually reinforcing.

We have developed an ESG charter and framework to model our environmental, social, and corporate governance principles and commitments. This allows us to set goals and track our progress toward more sustainable industry standards and practices.

We commit to the following

Environment

To reduce environmental degradation by working with our teams, partners, and clients to enhance natural resource conservation and energy efficiency of our operations and the homes we build.

Social

Support the health and wellbeing, safety, equality and inclusion of our people, clients and partners in relation to their environment by acting on areas of mutual value alignment.

Governance

Uphold rigour in our board governance and operational processes to make effective decisions that comply with the law, requirements of our stakeholders and deliver on commitments to our environmental and social objectives.

Our team specialises in creating spaces that are environmentally sustainable, and designed to nurture your health and well-being. Homes that incorporate the latest energy-efficient and eco-friendly building materials, practices and appliances from around the world. As an industry leader in the healthy home movement, we’ll guide you towards the best sustainability features to fit your lifestyle and needs.

But what exactly does it mean to own a healthy home?

A home that’s considered ‘healthy’ includes materials, features and design elements that reduce an occupants exposure to harmful toxins, improves quality of life, and seeks to minimise environmental impact and protect occupants from future environmental extremes.

Many of us are unaware of just how harmful issues like poor indoor air quality, the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from conventional flooring, carpets, and cabinetry, can be. Not to mention that Australia’s still building 4 in every 5 new houses to no more than the minimum energy standard of 6 stars, with only 1.5% of new homes built to an optimum economic and energy performance of 7.5+ natHERS stars.
